History

Lange Animal Hospital opened on December 26, 1977 with twin brothers Rick and Randy Lange and a single receptionist up front. Moving to east Tennessee from south Florida, the transplanted Iowans had selected Knoxville as their home from a list of other potential communities because they loved the beauty of the area and the friendliness of its people. We were determined to bring the best of veterinary medicine to east Tennessee and are proud we have been American Animal Hospital Association-accredited since 1980, the first private hospital to achieve this status in east Tennessee. Since then we have demonstrated steady growth and today have a staff of twenty five, including four full-time veterinarians and one part-time veterinarian. We have continued to maintain our progressive desire to stay on the cutting edge of medical technology and therapy, and today employ the latest technologies in our effort to provide our clients with the best medical options available.

In 1993, our first hospital location was condemned by the state of Tennessee for the construction of the Pellissippi Parkway, and we re-located two blocks west on Kingston Pike to our current location at 10405 Kingston Pike. We were able to draw from our fifteen years of practice in west Knoxville and expand and upgrade all aspects of our new hospital design, again adhering to the stringent standards of the American Animal Hospital Association. Today we believe we have the facilities and the staff to continue to provide the highest level of medical care for the pets of east Tennessee.

Dr. Rick was unfortunately involved in a fatal automobile accident in November of 1999 but his spirit and leadership still guide Lange Animal Hospital and its staff to this day. We miss his quick wit but are daily reminded of his dogged determination to provide the very best in medical care to the pets in the Knoxville and surrounding communities. Dr. Rick is missed but never forgotten!

Dr. Randy continues on in Rick’s absence and has been blessed with a loyal and devoted staff as Lange Animal Hospital continues to strive to be the very best in companion animal medicine and surgery.
